CARNIVAL 2008

CARNIVAL NOV 08

Piece: "I Am Woman" Choreographer: Shyrelle Kalilikane Dancers: Stacey, Lizzie, Anna, Tatiana, Emily, Shyrelle, Yvonne, Shaina, Carolina, Tiffany, Ama, and Alyssa.

On November 11th, 2008 I was a guest choreographer at CARNIVAL: The Choreographer's Ball. I did a piece fused with Hip hop, street jazz, and contemporary. My theme was an all woman piece entitled "I Am Woman". I used three chairs, and 3 red, heart-shaped balloons for my contemporary piece, which consisted of three dancers dressed in black. I also had 9 Hip hop/Street Jazz dancers in my piece as well dressed in baggy jeans, boots, flannel, and black vests. All of the dancers were female, and empowering. It was such a great project to get ahold of, and i'm soo thankful that I got to work with these wonderful ladies. Its such an inspiration to see your work placed on other bodies. To see the end product was just remarkable. I hope to do another piece for the carnival in April 09. For more footage and photos, please stay tuned.

TRANSPARENCY

FASHION ROCKS!

In October 08 I was involved in a lovely fashion show called "Transparency"
designed by the very talented Caleb Sayan. The project was held at Frank White, a very intimate and homey indoor/outdoor fashionista gallery located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Caleb used 8 models to showcase his 8 transparent pieces. He went back to basics using cotton, sheer fabric, and ribbon. His designs were fluid and focused on using creatures from the sea such as jellyfishes, seaweed, and lobsters, layered on sheer fabric. My favorite piece was the jellyfish hoodie, which gave a layered and yet weightless presence. The designer, models, audience, and location all gave off a very positive and warm vibe which really made the show. Watch out for this progressive and emerging artist Caleb Sayan. Check back for more details.
